The Madison-Mayodan Recreation Commission represents the first merged recreation department in the state of North Carolina. The mission of the Madison-Mayodan Recreation Commission is to provide a broad spectrum of leisure programs and services to all ages and abilities. The majority of funding is provided by the Towns of Madison and Mayodan. Other sources of revenue include program fees, sponsors and donations. Another significant source of funding is through the United Way of Rockingham County. The Madison-Mayodan Recreation Commission is proud to have been a United Way Agency since it began in 1983. The department is headed by a commission of six people chosen by the town boards: three appointees from Madison and three appointees from Mayodan. Those currently serving the commission are: Chairman Royce Richardson (Madison) Vice Chair Keith Webster (Mayodan) Secretary Michelle Casto (Mayodan) Treasurer Gay Welch (Madison) Athletic Commissioner John Collins (Madison) Athletic Commissioner Edna Martin (Mayodan) The Recreation Department has a staff of five (5) full-time and four (4) part-time employees in addition to a number of contracted and seasonal workers. Rockingham Community College also co-sponsors many classes, providing instructors. The support and dedication of many volunteers is also vital to the operation of the department. The Madison-Mayodan Recreation Department reflects the great diversity and beauty of the
local community. It is a pleasure to share some of our area's splendor with
you and to welcome you to the Madison-Mayodan Recreation Department.
