Throughout the year, a number of special events are held at the recreation center or one of the related facilities. Please call for additional information.

Mayodan Antique Extravaganza - Sept. 16-17, 2011, April 20-21, 2012

 

Murder Mystery Night, March 10, 2012

This Senior Center Fundraiser will be held Saturday night March 10 at 4PM and will last until the perpetrator is apprehended! The event will be held at the El Puente Mexican Resturant in Madison, and the fee is $15.00 per person and includes dinner and beverage and entertainment. Be sure to bring extra cash for the silent auction items.

 

Swing Night Special, April 21, 2012

Enjoy an evening of special music and dance with the Greensboro Big Band, featuring the recreation department's own Dixie Penn! The gymnasium is transformed into a dance hall for a grand Saturday evening in April. Tickets may be purchased in advance or at the door. Tables may be reserved for a group fee, guaranteeing seating for up to eight guests. All proceeds benefit the recreation department.

 

Fishing Derby - June 23, 2012

This annual event is held at Farris Memorial Park and is sponsored by the Madison-Mayodan Recreation Department, Fuzzy’s BBQ, GoFishKids.org, and The RecycledAngler.com . The fishing derby is scheduled from 8AM - 11AM with check-in from 7AM to 8AM. Registration for the event is $2.00 for ages 13 and under, and $7.00 for ages 14 and older. Everyone is required to bring their own bait. Participants also receive a t-shirt, and prizes/awards go to winners in various age divisions. Dan River Boat Race - Saturday, August 4, 2012

The first Saturday in August is a day of family-oriented fun as canoe and kayak enthusiasts converge on the Dan River. Awards are given to winners in various age categories and divisions. At the end of the 2 1/2 mile trek, participants can enjoy lunch, musical entertainment, and visit vendors while waiting for the times to be tallied. The past few years have brought more than 100 boats and even more participants from across North Carolina and surrounding states, creating lasting memories and a wonderful event!
